Frequently Asked Questions about Carolina Way Camp
What do I need to bring to camp?
Bedding - Sleeping bag or Set of Sheets/Blanket (our cabins have twin-sized bunk beds)
Comfortable clothing for four days
Sports Jersey (any sport)
Sandals (flip flops, Chacos, etc.)
Light Jacket (buildings are cold, y’all)
Fun camp items (face paint, glitter, bubbles, etc.)
Spike ball, frisbee, football, soccer ball, etc.
What NOT to Bring:
Vape pens or any other smoking devices. Smoking is prohibited at Camp Thunderbird.
Laptops, iPads and any tablets
Where do I park for lunch on August 15th?
Parking at the NC Study Center will be unavailable due to our limited capacity. Here are a few nearby options:
Morehead Planetarium Lot is open for visitor parking. 250 East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516

For both UNC Housing and Granville Towers, you can begin moving into your dorm by 9 AM on Wednesday, August 15th. You are welcome to move in anytime between 9 AM and 12 PM. You will receive your room keys when you check-in in the lobby of your dorm. For Granville Residents, you will check in the West Tower Lobby.
We only ask that you be at the NC Study Center by Noon for our Carolina Way Camp Lunch before students head to camp. The NC Study Center is located at 203 Battle Lane, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
Is it possible to move into my dorm on August 15th?
Yes! Both on-campus housing and Granville Towers will allow our campers to move in starting the morning of August 15th. We have sent student's names & PIDs to UNC Housing and Granville Towers so their staff is prepared for your arrival.
Where is CWC located?
While based out of the North Carolina Study Center, in Chapel Hill, NC, our 2018 camp will be held at YMCA Camp Thunderbird in Lake Wylie, South Carolina. Students will ride charter buses to and from the camp.
What if I have allergies, disabilities, or medical concerns?
Camp Thunderbird does not serve products that contain peanuts or tree nuts. They can also assist with all other allergy, disability, and medical concerns if notified prior to arrival. Most commonly, they are able to provide gluten-free and vegetarian options if given notice. Please contact us if you have any questions or requests regarding this.
